A collection of photographs of everyday life, just passing by, on a constant search for those minimal hidden details, mysterious, yet full of awareness, meditative yet bristling with fervor. Mira’s debut for Maple Death Erica’ reveals the artist’s constant transformation, a dense collection of six melancholy vignettes that spin cinematic neo-classical minimalism into slow-tranced lullabies and ancient folklore chants.

Based between Rome and Torino the violinist and composer is a beloved figure in the Italian underground community, a result of her many collaborations with Heart Of Snake, Il Quadro di Troisi and her involvement with the Misto Mame collective. Her path has always been at the intersection between classical work, improv, theatre and performative art, all disciplines that have strongly influenced her solo career.

Erica (from the plant Heather) was conceived after a short residency in Bologna with illustrator Davide Catania and originally commissioned by Maple Death and comic book publishing house Canicola Edizioni. For the first time Mira stepped away from her looping technique and decided to focus on different instruments to guide the compositions allowing her the opportunity to entrust dynamic roles and emotions to each of them. From the rapturous ‘La Milonga’ with its driving plucked beat and twisting folk dance refrain to the vocal complexity of ‘Nana’ with its stuttered handclap lull, Mira’s compositional talent shines through with a profound and unique voice. Synth, violins, flute and percussion mesh on a journey through post Nyman tendencies, Mediterranean mythology and Southern tradition with an enchanted aura that permeates the subtle electronics and atmosphere of her music. Crystalline tones, richly textured waves and liberated sonic realms filtered through Mira’s vision create a deep listening experience that weaves the elusive into blossoming magic.
